Hope you can make it. Here’s the press release on my upcoming art show.

AFP Galleries is pleased to present Work, Energy & Power, an exhibition of paintings by New York based artist, Kristin Jai Klosterman. The exhibition opens on September 29th and continues through October 29th. A reception for the artist will be held on Wednesday, September 29th from 6 – 9 pm.

The works presented in this exhibition explore the relationship between man’s work, the world’s energy and the power and force of nature. Klosterman’s Pump Jacks Series captures the landscape of oil fields and the goliath machinery used to harness the earth’s oil and power. The monochromatic color palette used in these paintings emphasizes the architecture of these structures while highlighting man-made systems and their relationship with nature.

The Silk Storm Series depicts satellite imagery of actual storms as well as galaxies. Klosterman’s examination of the world’s weather phenomenon in contrast to the blueprint of the cosmos unearths similarities in the two design systems. The storms swirling mass of water and wind compared to the galaxy’s rhythmic expanse of stars, dust and gas echo each other’s fundamental structure. Hand-painted on dyed silk with oil and ink, the delicate compositions convey a sense of energy and strength.

Kristin Jai Klosterman was born in Avon Lake, Ohio in 1977 and studied at The New World School of the Arts in Miami, FL. In 2002, she founded her own art gallery, Two Girls and a Dog, which she helmed and curated for several years. In 2004, Klosertman began apprenticing for Laddie John Dill, an award-winning contemporary painter and sculptor. Eventually Klosterman began working side by side with Dill, harnessing and manipulating the tools and skills she had learned from him to create life-size projects. Together they created a freestanding 30-foot sculpture made of cor-ten steel that is now in Santa Ana, California, in addition to a 20-foot suspended sculpture commissioned for the Jackson Memorial Hospital in Jackson, Tennessee. Kloserman lives and works in New York City. Contact: Allison Wilbur, allison.wilbur@gmail.com or Meghan Carleton, meghan@artfinancepartners.com.

Brandon Boyd talks about a collaboration for Toms Shoes with Kristin Jai Klosterman.

I am really excited about these shoes. This is a project I worked on with Brandon Boyd for Toms Shoes. If you don’t know about Tom’s you should. For every pair of Tom’s you buy, they make another pair of shoes for a kid and take them out into the world and give them away. Amazing project and great idea for a business. More people should develop businesses thinking like that!
